Kids First, Always: Building a Campaign Around Our Children

On Sunday, August 18We Make Indiana brought together a diverse group of concerned community members in support of the Kids First Agenda. MARA was proud to be part of the organizing committee for this impactful event.

Our children are facing a critical crisis that has persisted for far too long, and it is our responsibility to lead them out of it. Prominent community leaders, including several church Pastors, South Bend Mayor James Mueller and SBCSC Superintendent Todd Cummings, spoke passionately in support of this initiative. South Bend is ready to move beyond discussion and take meaningful action, with this meeting serving as the first step in that direction.

Legislation has been passed stating that 3rd-grade students who do not pass the I-READ assessment will be held back and not promoted to the next grade level. This could result in 38% of our third graders being held back and significantly impacting their academic careers, which could, in turn, affect other areas of their lives. The pressing question now is: what can we do immediately to help?

We urgently need reliable, trustworthy adults who are willing and available to become trained coaches, mentors, or tutors. If you or someone you know is interested, please follow this link for more information on how to get involved: https://forms.gle/gbY8wWMXfxbZJuuv8.
